Environmental Impact
ManpowerGroup conducts its business with respect and consideration for the environment. As a service organization, our operations are entirely office-based. Thus, our environmental impact is small compared to that of manufacturing companies. Yet, even office-based businesses have the opportunity to impact the environment in a positive way-especially a business with offices in 82 countries and territories. World HeadquartersIn September 2007, ManpowerGroup moved into its new world headquarters, a "green building" in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The new facility's design is aligned with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and earned the organization's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification. Sustainable features include the following:
![]() in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S. The World Headquarters is a model for ManpowerGroup's operations globally and will serve to inspire the design and choices made in future office space, especially our larger locations which provide opportunities for more design and operating innovations including our standards for a more green branch experience. French HeadquartersFrance is our largest market and a leader in modeling social responsibility and transparency. For example, the new country headquarters, located in an area of economic development near Paris, is in a building that meets the French HQE (High Environmental Quality) eco-building requirements, including the following:
![]() Most of ManpowerGroup's environmental initiatives are realized at the local level, because our business entities execute programs in response to local and national needs. The initiatives include employee safety and environmental stewardship. On a global basis, ManpowerGroup's Environment, Health and Safety Management System (EMS) is a fixed and flexible framework that applies the principles of Reduce/Reuse/Recycle. We began to track data in 2008 and continue to find ways to share knowledge and replicate what we learn from the most successful programs across our entire network. The EMS is a significant step in that direction. Over the next years and months, as the EMS is more fully implemented, evaluated and improved, we will better meet stakeholder expectations and contribute to more sustainable communities and an improved environment in which to live and work. ![]() Since 2008, ManpowerGroup reported a growing amount of environmental data on a consolidated basis. We have made progress with many opportunities ahead. For example, in 2008 conservation efforts resulted in saving over 63,000 reams of paper, the equivalent of 3,812 trees. In 2010, the trend continued along with recycling efforts: over one million pounds of paper and plastic each year, thousands of printer cartridges. We also reduced plastic goods, saving some 250,000 units at our World Headquarters alone. Newsweek magazine recognized these efforts when it named ManpowerGroup again in 2011 to its list of "The Greenest Companies in America," based on "actual performance, policies and reputation." With one of the world's greenest headquarters as a model, ManpowerGroup aspires to be a good steward for our environment, championing carbon-free virtual work platforms and by taking actions to reduce our carbon footprint and emissions. ManpowerGroup's commitment to strong environmental performance is closely linked to our understanding of the power of innovation in the Human Age. It is also consistent with our efforts to create practical solutions that help our clients attract, engage and retain winning talent. From building one of the world's greenest headquarters to championing carbon-free virtual work platforms, Manpower's commitment to strong environmental performance is key to our leadership in contemporary working. It is also consistent with our efforts to create practical solutions that help our clients attract, engage and retain winning talent. And once again, ManpowerGroup was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). DJSI recognition is based on its evaluation of a company's corporate governance, environmental performance, human rights policies and other social criteria. The index provides an objective benchmark for financial products that are linked to economic, environmental and social criteria. The DJSI assessment is based on both industry-specific and general criteria, including comparisons against our peers and other companies in the DJSI. We continue to look for ways to improve our efforts to reduce waste and energy consumption. Our EMS and measurement systems will help us set specific targets, track progress and encourage more of our field operations to formalize programs associated with energy conservation, paper reduction/recycling, printer cartridge recycling and office standards to reduce our carbon footprint. ^ Top |
